More than Gold, Hope Together 2011-2014
A statement from the Churches Group for Evangelisation meeting at High Leigh 21/22.09.10
As members of the Churches Group for Evangelisation, we encourage churches in England to engage in the home mission opportunities afforded by the national initiatives Biblefresh, More than Gold and Hope Together, as they feed into national, regional and local churches programmes.
These three major initiatives complement each other, and provide significant resources for mission for the next four years. Each home mission initiative will provide a positive legacy for the future in terms of deepening discipleship, church growth, community transformation and people finding faith in Christ.
We encourage local groups of churches to:
1. research the potential of each initiative
2. pray and discern a vision
3. strategically plan together in your own local context
4. work in close collaboration
… celebrating the various diverse gifts and strengths in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ together.
Information
The Churches Group for Evangelisation is a Coordinating Group of Churches Together in England, with representatives of member churches and associated home mission agencies.
Biblefresh. 2011 is the 400th anniversary of the 'King James' translation of the Bible. Biblefresh is an initiative with over a hundred partners: conferences, festivals, exhibitions, museums, schools, parliament, arts, media - all engaging in the biblical text today, both in the church and the wider community. Local churches together groups could host an exhibition ... engage with a school project ... hold a 'scriptorium' ... produce resources and join in with national initiatives etc. See: www.biblefresh.com
More than Gold. In 2012 we host the Olympic Games. These will be celebrated all over the country, chiefly in London and other large competition venues, but also in thousands of other local communities where the torch relay, schools, sports networks, and civic authorities are joining in the fun. 'More than Gold' is the churches network collating information and resources to help local churches get involved, with a vision that local churches could host 500 athletes families, provide 5000 volunteers, give a million drinks, hold 2000 creative arts events, host a hundred 'bid screen events' etc. This is a huge opportunity for churches to work together with other community networks. See: www.morethangold.org.uk.
Hope Together. 2014 is the focus of Hope Together which has already been launched at a prayer gathering of 40,000 people from the Redeemed Christian Church of God. 'Hope Together' is a response from church leaders who said good things happened in Hope08 where 1500 areas took part in a wide variety of projects in mission and evangelisation in 'word and deed'. The first resource opportunity will be at Easter 2011 and the initiative will build complement Biblefresh and More than Gold, where there are close relations in the core planning teams. A website has been launched at: www.hopetogether.org.uk.
Local Churches Together. Further information about these initiatives, and other forthcoming events and celebrations, will be hosted on the CTE website to help, to encourage and practically facilitate local groups of churches working together in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
